Additional Information

Skates

Skaters are welcome to use their own skates if they have them. In addition, Frog Pond has rental skates in sizes 8-15. Figure skates are strongly recommended for beginner skaters, as they provide a much better blade to begin learning with. “Double-runner” skates (2 blades on each skate) are prohibited. Skaters can choose to wear hockey skates, but the shorter blade can be difficult for beginners. Visit Home Ice located at The Skating Club of Boston for all the skate-specific answers you need! Rental skates are included in the lesson fee.

Helmets

Learn to Skate USA strongly recommends the use of a helmet for beginners of all ages. Hockey, ski or skateboard helmets are preferred. Bicycle helmets are not recommended.

Fees

The fee for private lessons varies depending on the length of the lesson and the number of skaters involved. Admission to Frog Pond is included for the person taking a lesson.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made at least 24-hours in advance. Cancellations received less than 24-hours from the lesson time are not eligible for refunds. If you are enrolled in a series of lessons and need to miss or re-schedule one of these lessons, please coordinate changes directly with your coach.

What if I am running late?

Lessons are scheduled for a specific time block, and the majority of our coaches have schedules with consecutive back-to-back lessons. Additionally, as we have a 24-hour cancellation policy, we are unable to cancel and re-schedule lessons if you are running late. If you can make it for part of your lesson, please come anyway! If you are running late for your lesson and you have recurring lessons with the same coach, please contact your coach directly as soon as possible!

Inclement Weather

While skating outdoors can be a beautiful way to experience the sport, the weather does occasionally necessitate closing the rink and canceling lessons. If the weather is questionable on the day of a lesson, please check the Skating Academy web home page for the latest weather update one hour prior to the start of your lesson. If a cancellation notice is not posted but you are concerned about skating in questionable weather, please contact your coach directly.

Make-Up Classes

If a scheduled lesson has been cancelled for any reason, please contact the coach directly to reschedule.
