Basic Skills classes in Boston

The Skating Club of Boston®, 1240 Soldiers Field Road, Boston, MA

Founded in 1912, The Skating Club of Boston is the third oldest figure skating club in the United States. Home to U.S., Olympic and World champions, the Club maintains a commitment to the sport of figure skating through its programs, coaches, staff and future plans for expansion in the Boston area. The Club offers skate rentals on a first-come-first-serve basis (cash/check only), heated rink-side seating and vending machines.

Programs Offered

Basic Skills

Fun, goal-oriented program for beginners, children (age 4+) through adult. Skaters will receive Basic Skills instruction following the Learn to Skate USA curriculum endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating and USA Hockey. Basic Skills sessions offered: Snowplow Sam 1-3, Basic Skills 1-6, Pre-Free Skate through Free Skate 6 and Adult 1-6.

Bridge

Fast paced, accelerated program, focusing on proper stretching techniques, warm up and cool down both on and off the ice, stroking, edges and power skating, introductory moves in the field, spins, jumps, and Artistry in Motion (beginning choreography and style). Students are evaluated and tested based on Learn To Skate USA’s Basic Skills curriculum. Skaters must have passed at least Basic 4 and up to Preliminary Free Skate to register for this program.

Therapeutic Skating

Skating is for everyone, including those with permanent physical, developmental or intellectual disabilities. We now offer a limited number of skating lessons for skaters facing a variety of challenges and disabilities. Find out if the program is right for you or your skater.

Becky is the Campus Manager for both the Frog Pond and Boston Monday campuses. She has been the Campus Manager for the Frog Pond campus since Skating Academy first opened and has been a skating coach for over thirty years. She skated competitively for six years where she competed in the New England Regional Championships. Her skating levels include Pre-Silver Pattern test and fifth figure. – continue reading –
